THE BAND CONTEST.

(Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, last night. At the Band Contest the marching competition was witnessed by large crowds. The following were the results : Won- , ganui Garrison Band, music' 76, marching 286, total 364; Woodville, music 66, marching 269, total 535; New Plymouth, music 66, marching 265, total 331; Palmerston North, music 66, marching 259, total 325; Masterton, music 74, marching 248, total 322; Petone, music -75, marching 244, total 319. The contest concluded, to-night, the result of the championship bemg: Wanganui, 357, 1 ; Masterton (disqualified), 355; Petone, 319, 2; New Plymouth 306,. 3 ; Palmerston North, 305, 4 ; Woodville, 288, 5. There was a great crowd at the Opera House, and the contest was altogether most successul.
