SMABT TELEGBAPHIC WORK. Wakapuaka, this day. The receipt of the Press Association cable announcing the surrender of Cronje •was an instance of very smart work on the part of the Eastern Extension Cable Company and the land line between Sydney and' La Perouse, the message being in the hands of the Presß Association here exactly two minutes after these offices opened up this morning. It was the first message to come to hand to Wakapuaka.
Sydney, Feb. 27. Admiral Pearson has received a cable announcing the death of his eldest son, Lieutenant Pearson, of typhoid fever at Ladysmith. Wellington, this day. Bunting iB floating over the whole city, and all the State schools are closed, the children enjoying a holi.lay at the request of the Premier. Auckland, tins day. In honor of the victory, Ministers gave a half-holiday to all the Government offices in the colony. Napier, this day. News of Cronje's unconditional surrender was received with unbounded joy. All the school children have been granted a holiday, pupils of the main school saluting the flag prior to dismissing. There were similar demonstrations at Hastings.
