I So far the following bunds have entered for the contest of the North Island Brasa I Blind Association, to bo held here in March . next :— Woodville, Pctone, Mitchclltown, jpalmerstou North, Boys' Naval Institute, I Wellington Garrison, Jupp's, North East 'Valley (Dunedin), Dennteton, and Nelson Garrison. The test selection is now being distributed to competing bands, and the ballot for judge « ill be taken on the closing of entries. The prixes which are offered by lUe committee are as follow : First prize, i'loo cnuh, 25 silver medals, and the Bcsson Challenge Shield; second prize, £50 ; ihinl, £25 ; fourth, £i 5; fifth, £1U 5 and sixth, £5. | Parliament has been formally summoned ; to meet on February 15. AUCKLAND, Tins day. At the Police Court to-day several other bookmaker (letting cases were dealt with. Robert Clelaud was fined £5 for unlawfully making a bet with John Rowe, and
20b and costs for street betting. Alex. Phillips was fined £5 for unlawfully betting with John Rowe, and 20s and co3ts for street betting ; and Tobias Tobias 20s on each of two charges of street betting. Two charges against Cloland, two against Phillips, ftiid one against Tobias were withdrawn. The May Queen mine crushed 898 tons for a yield of £1780. The May Queen tributers crushed 43 tons for £552 of gold.
