' Napier, Saturday. The weather is fine but overcast for the opening of the Otago-Hawke's Bay cricket match today. The wicket is in capital condition notwithstanding the heavy showers whioh fell yesterday. Winning the toss, Otajjo batted first, Baker and Johnston taking up the defence to the bowling of Wilson and Gore. Baker had not got used to the wiokeU when Wilson scattered his stumps with the total at four. Oeddes filled the vacancy, and after scoring 11 in a cautious manner lost his leg stump to Wilson,. Siedeberg had a Bhort life, lifting one from Gore into Wileon'a hands. Austin joined Johnston, and the runs oame more freely until Cotterill got rid of the latter, l.b.w. Ligginß filled the vacancy, and with Austin was batting at the luncheon adjournment,- the score standing 4 for 86, asfollowß :— Baker, b Wilson, 2; Johnston, 1.b.w., b Cotterill, 26 Geddes, b Wilson, 11 j Siedeberg, o Wilson, b Gore, 4 ; Austin, not out, 34; Liggini, not out, 7 ; extras, 2. Napikr, This day.' In the Otago-Hawke's Bay cricket match, first innings, the visitors made 222, Broad 00, Cotterell 26, Austin 21, and Hope 20. Hawke's Bay, in their first innings, could only put together 69, of which Lusk made 19 and Wilson 18. Geddes took three wickets for 5 runs. Heavy rain fell yesterday, and whe,n play in the Hawke's Bay-Otago match was resumed thiß morning the wicket was sodden and heavy.
