" Sydnby, Dec. 16. Both Queensland and Victoria have informed Mr Lyne that they are willing to co-operate in sending a united Australian contingent, if necessary. The Commandant is of opinion that a second contingent would be accepted. Huudredß are volunteering. Melbourne, Deo. 15. Colonel Downes, the local Commandant, said that while plenty of men were available, he would regret the Imperial Government seeking more men from the colonies. It would be a confession of weakness. While civilians are despondent, old military men refuse to take a pessimistic view of the situation. Major Kennedy has telegraphed to Colonel Peuton, offering for South African service.
