(Per Press Association.) Napier, yesterday. Messrs Nelson Bros, have received the following cable message from the Colonial 1 Consignment and Distributing Company, London : — " Frozen meat market. Quotations : Bost Canterbury, 3Jd ; Dmiedin and Southland, 3d ; Napier and North Island, 2|d ; lamb (first quality), 4jjd ; second quality, 3jd." The second wool sale of the season was - held at Christchurch on Thursday, from 12,000 to 13,000 bales beiug offered. ' There ' wus a large attendance of buyers, The i wool was mostly in splendid condition, and a number of station clips were offered, mii eluding several that have never before been ' sold locally, Competition was exceedingly \ keen throughout, and the whole proceedings were much more brisk than the last ' sales. A Continental buyer was present, and snapped up the bulk of the merino and a considerable portion of the best half- ; bred, while Home buyers and the representatives of the New Zealand mills were also keen competitors for fine wool. During the forenoon "Kaiwarra" greasy merino sold up to 15|d, and "T. ■ Armstrong" half-bred to 13|d, fine orossbred reaching lOJd. All the fine wools showed an advance on the rates realised at the previous sale. Fine bright crossbreds also showed improvement, but the coarser grades were without change. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report having held their first sale of the season at Wellington | on Deo. Sth, when they offered a catalogue ' of about 840 bales to a full attendance- of buyers, who competed eagerly throughout. ' With the exception of one or two small ■ lota; every parcel was cleared under the , hammer, at prices' considerably in advance of those ruling a year ago. Compared with :' this time last year, half-bred and fine orossbred wool showed an improvement of 4d to \ sd, coarse orossbred ljd to 2d, Lincoln, logStained and dingy, Jd to IJd per Ib. The ' condition of the wool offered was superior to what it has been for some years back, thus reflecting the influence of the mild • winter and fine spring just past.
