[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, This day. The claim for compensation against the Government by Malcolm McLean and Robb Gow, for taking Kapili Island, is now before the Court. Plaintiffs claim £14,120, including loss of income from business on leaseholds for nineteen and a half years £1 1,880. AUCKLAND, This day. The Delta Hotel, Ngaruwahia, and Friar, Davies and Company's store adjoining have been destroyed by fire. The Inspector of Police denies the allegation that immorality is increasing in Auckland. On the contrary, he says the social evil is decreasing. MASTERTON, This day. Tha East Coast mail coach, owned and driven by Sam Foreman, collided with a wool wuggon near Blairlogie. The whole concern was precipitated over a deep gully. The coach was smashed to atoms and one of the horses killed. Foreman miraculously escaped with a broken wrist. No passengers were aboard. NELSON, This day. William Jones, a very old Motueka settler, dropped deaJ while conversing on the deck of the steamer Lily.
