ROWING,

The semi-final rowed off last evening in connection with tho Gisborne Rowing Club's trial fours resulted in a close race. The competing crews were : L. Sherriff (str), Harding (3), Hansen (2), Graham i (bow) ; and J. Macleod (str), Boyd (3), Bright (2), Craig (bow). For the first quarter of a mile the boats kept on level terms, but on shooting the bridge Sherriff gained a lead of a few feet. This Macleod valiantly endeavored to recover, but without avail, and SherrifFs crew passed the postoviniiers by a quarter of a length. Macleod's crew were greatly handicapped by the erratic steering of the coxswain, both on makiug the footbridge and in the home Blretch. The final this evening between Sherriff and Symes should result in a close race.
