[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON. To-day. Henry Clements has been arrested, on a charge of seriously wounding a woman named Elizabeth McKenzie. They were living together and quarrelled. The woman was found with severe wounds on the head, apparently inflicted with a tomahawk. From March Ist the Gas Company reduce the price of gas for all purposes by Gd for 000 cubic feet, this making the net price for lighting, heating, and cooking purposes os 10d, and for engines os :xl. The Petoue Gun Club's big handicap for £150 was lired off yesterday. There were S(i nominations, mostly double entries. Thirteen killed all their birds and lired off. Only two dropped out, and the remaining * eleven divided. They were ••Hillcoat" of Sydney, the scratch man, the only one who succeeded in both nominations; Fred Wood, H. Redwood, Collins, Chevannes junior, Harmon, Whitle senior, Belmont, Viekery. and Meßae. There are thirty-eight applications for the superintendency of the Fire Brigade, some being from Australia. The Harbor Board has decided to raise a loan of £130,0C0 for the extension of wharves, etc. The loan will be raised locally, if terms can be arranged. Arrived: Warship Mildurafrom Hohart. The Conciliation Board made its award to-day in the iron and brass moulders' dispute. The number of hours per weekhas been fixed at 4GJ, and the rate of pay at Is 3d per hour, trade unionists to have preference to employment: also that if certain firms not joined in the present dispute entered into competition in certain work with those joined they must come under the award. NAPIER, To-day. Hugh Christie, aged 17, was lost in Pukatitiri bush last. Friday evening. Search parties have been out every day since, but although tracks of the missing boy were found, Christie hai not yet turned up. Constable Riordan has gone up to assist in the search. AUCKLAND, To-day. To Henheu now consents to allow the Government geologist to inspect the locality at Taupo where gold has been found. Mr McKay is expected back at Rotorua en route to Taupo. At a meeting of the Sir George Grey Memorial Fund Committee, the honorary secretary (Hon. W. T. Jennings), reported that since last meeting he had seen Rawhiti, the Maori King's private secretary, who stated that the matter of subscriptions to the momoiial would lie discussed at a meeting of King Country Maoris on an early date, and the Maoris were entering heartily into the matter. At the iiu|uest on Joseph (lents, who was taken ill after eating tinned salmon and died next morning, a veidict of death due to peritonitis, caused by fish poisoning, was returned.
