ALLEGED GOLD ROBBERIES.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night.

As the result of investigations made by Detectives MoMahon and Herbert, five men employed by the Kapiwga Company as tnbnters at the battery, have ueen arrested on a charge of stealing gold-bear-ing quartz to the value of £531, the property of the shareholders of the Kapanga Company. The first man arrested was William Brien, by Detectives McMahon and Mcllveney. Later Detectives Maddern and Kennedy* arrested Robert Douglas at Freeman's Bay. One of the men when arrested had, it is alleged, £20 worth of gold in his possession, and £70 worth of ore. Both men were brought before Mr J. Hutchison, S.M., at the Police Court, charged with theft, and were remanded till to-morrow without bail.

After the two arrests were mndo in town, Detectives McMahon and Mcllvcney ou information received, loft for Coromandel, and laßfc night arrested there John Henry Gunn and Robert Gunn, of tho firm of Andrews and Gunn, Kapanga tributers, who were brought before MrT. Bail wav allowed, £100 each, and two securities each of £100, waking the total bail £300. Each of the accused ate old resideuts at Coromandel, and much excitement has been caused by the acrests.
