LAWN TENNIS.
There was a fair attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Gisborne Lawn Tennis Club last; evening. Mr A. W. Rees occupied the Chair.
The Secretary read the annual report, which congratultcd the members on the successful season the club had just had. It expressed the belief that lawn tennis was again assuming the position of boing the most popular of outdoor amusements, and went on to say that interest had been sustained right through the season, that there had been an increase- of members, which meant an increase in receipts. Six or seven matches had been played during the season, and all had been well contested. The report recommended that a pavilion bo erected for the ladies, to whom thanks were accorded for providing afternoon tea on Saturdays. Thanks were also given to those who had donated prizes. The balance-sheet showed receipts from all sources to £58 14s 7d, and expenditure £5S 11s 2rl, leaving a balance of 3s 5d in hand, while the assets amounted to £14,'{ 16s 3d, a surplus of £43 Is 5d over all liabilities.
The following new members were elected : Mcsdamcs Stubbs and On 1 , Misses Oir, Hardy, Graham, Penis, and Boylan, and Messrs A. Webb, W. Nolan, and 11. Finn.
The oflicers elected for the ensuing season were :— President, MrE. H. Maun, Vioe-Presirlents, Messrs Grant, McLcrnon, A. Rees, and Drs Hughes and Craig ; hon. secretary, Mr E. (f. Matthews ; hon. treasurer, Mr 0. H. Buttler; auditor, Mr IT. (.'. Waison ; committee, Mis A. Rees and Miss 0. Crawford, and Messrs K J. Chrisp, P.islcy, and Wilson.
Promises of prizes from Messrs Watson, Wilson, and Butllcr were gratefully received.
The opening day was fixed for the l.jth of October, but the courts are to lie ready for practice on October S.
The recommendation of Ihc coiiiuiiUec that <i ladies' pavilion be built, was adopted, and the work to be proceeded with as early as possible.
On Mr Watson's motion, Rule 11 was amended to read " That after December 1 a list of those, membeis who have paid their subscriptions be kept on the notice board."
It was .stated that the two courts newly laid down would not be fit for use until after Christmas.
