t "A to his going Home. ' Anight or two afterwards, the Premier when.itddressing a public meeting at Auckland admitted that he hod made a mistake in supposing that Mr Horton was still on the board. This mistake enabled the Press to score another point, iwhich is certainly worth quoting : " There s thus revealed the astonishing fact that Mr Seddon actually docs not know who are his colleagues on the Anglo-Coutinental Board of Advice ! There is only one inference which the public are likely to deduce from this, namely, that Mi- Seddon's chief function in connection with the Board must be to draw his salaay. If there is a so-called Board of Advice, consisting of three members, and one of these gentlemen does not know who his colleagues are, it is obvious that the Board does not meet very often, and that its members cannot have any very important business to transact in consultation witli each other. Tin's confirms the views which we have held all along, namely, that what the Anglo-Continental syndicate wanted of Mr Seddon was his name as Premier of the colony, and not his advice as a mining expert. The former might be worth a good deal and the latter very little, and it was for tho former that they were content to pay."
