RHODESIA.
(Elootric Telograpli-Cppyriglit- United Press Association.) London, April 21. Mr Cecil Rhodes and Mr Maguire were elected to the directorate of the British South African Chartered Company, but withdrew • from election. At a meeting of shareholders Mr Rhodes stated that when Rhodesia was planed under a system of autonomy the money which had been spent in developing the resources of the country would become productive, but lie expressed an opinion that within fifteen months revenue and expenditure would balance, and that in time the shareholders would obtain ample returns. All the Transvaal troubles arose from the fact that Englishmen had been treated like slaves. .That would never stop until their rights were asserted.' It was proposed that a guarantee be obtained from the British Government for a loan of two millions to construct a' railway- from Buluwayo to Lake Tanganika. This would give the British control of Africa. The speech was received with creat cheering, and the Weeing adopted a resolution authorising an increase of the capital of the company to five millions.
