The Auckland Cycling Club held their spring gathering at the Domain cricket ground this afternoon. The weather Was somewhat threatening during the morning, . and at just about the time to commence racing, but despite this fact the attendance was considerably over 5000. Though heavy rains. had fallen on the previous evening, a freßli*BOYitherly breeze in the early part of the day soon dried up the track, which was in splendid order. A programme of sonic 3u events, including heats, was gone through in a manner that reflected no end of credit on the management, and competition both in the cycling and running events, which were splendidly contested, was good. No less than 17 visiting wheelinin attended the meeting from Otago, Christchnrch, Wellington, and several of the coastal centres — the largest and most representative contingent that has ever visited a provincial meeting, other perhaps than at a championship gathering. The following are details of the principal cycling events in which the visitors ~ rode : — Auckland Cycling Club's Handicap, of three distances. First distance, one mile : J. Chalmers (North Otago), 90yds 1 ; W. Erwin (Auckland), 160 yds, 2; W. F. Ramsay (Auckland), 80yds, 3. Time, 2niin 38 1-iith sec. Chalmers closed up in the third lap, and coming on won by three wheels. Second distance, two miles: J. Chalmers (North Otago), 130 yds, 1 : W. F. Ramsay (Auckland), 130 yds, 2 ; U. H. Lctlmby (Cluistchurch), 120 yds, 3. Time, smin 23scc. Third distance, three miles : J. McDowell (Hastings), lOOvds, 1 ; J. Chalmers (North Otago), 230yds,*2; ,T. W. Blade (Cartel-ton), 165 yds, 3. Clarkson (Christchurch), 2 ; A. J. Campbell (Auckland), 3. Time, lomin 2 4-sth sec. Auckland Wheel Race Handicap, two miles : G. Hyamcon (Auckland), 100 yds, 1 ; C. Curtis (Auckland), 150 yds, 2 ; R. Hendry (Auckland), 80yds, 3. Time, omin 16 3-st'h lee.
The Multicycle Race, for which there were five entries, including the Dunlop triplet, was won by Barker and Clarkson, of Christchurch, from scratch. Barker was the hero of the day. Sydney, Oct. 30. At the League Carnival the Championship of Australasia, One Mile, was won by W.ilne (Queensland), Tebbutt (Victoria) 2, Green (England) 3, Forbes (New Zealand) 4. Time, 2mins 29 3-sth sees. Platt Betts endeavored to lower Lesim's five mile record of 9mins 59secs, but owing to an accident to his pacer only carried out the distance in lOmins 38secs.
