NAPIER V. UNION CLUBS. Napier, to day. tEhe annual representative races between the Napier and Union Rowing Cluba took place on. Saturday afternoon in the inner harbor. The water was very rough, and the rowing was not commenced till 4.15 p.m. 'The first race was between the ten stone crewa, the Union winning very easily by eight lengths. The past records of this race Are : 1894, Napier ; 189S, Napier. Ths Napier juniors them met the Union junior*. This race was won just as simply by the Union by four lengths. The past records are : — 1893, Napier ; 1894, Napier ; JB9s,jNapisr ; 1896, Union. The senior race between the two olnbs did nob start till 6 p.m., the crews comprising : Napier: W. J. Reid, (str) 12st 31b; W. Prentice (3), list 91b; S. B. Jago (2), lOat 101 b; Kebbel (bow), list. Union: J. Bedford (str) lOst 41b ; A. Simmonds (3), list 61b ; F. Garner (2). list 4lb ; W. Corbett (bow), lOst 21bs. Distance, 2 miles. From a good start a very even race resulted for half a mile, when Napier slightly forged ahead. The Union were not to be denied, *nd slowly drew up, until when the mile post was reached they were leading by a quarter of a length. Their superior condition then told, and they easily forged ahead, leading at the mile and a quarter by two lengths, and finally winning by six lengths, in 15min 57secs. The senior race has now resulted : 1891, Napier s 1892, Union ; 1593, Onion ; 1894, Napier ; 1895, Napier (by default) ; 1896, Napier ; 1897, Union. The lattter club thus won all the three races. The following crews hav-e been selected to go to . Gieborne on Good Friday : — Napier seniors : Kebbel (str), W. Prentice (3), S. B. Jago-(2), A. G. Saxby (bow). Union: seniors same as wired ; under ten Btone : T. P. Halpin fatr), W. Allan (3), A. Wilson (2), F. Fenton (bow). The juniors are the same as wired. j
