The Divorce Court granted a decroe nisi against Kate Vaughan, the well-known burlesque actress of Che Gaiety Company, on the grounds of adultery with Lethcourt, another member of the company. Apkil 9. — In the House of Commons the Criminal Law Amendment Bill, entitling prisoners to givo evidence, and allowing a wifa and husband to be called upon to give compulsory evidence, was read a second time. The Bill applies to England and Scotland. Messrs Lloyd, Morgan, and Carson opposed the Bill, air Charles Dilke said the Bill removed the last remuins of barbarism. At the Naval Architects' meeting Lord Charles Beresford stated that it was possible to convert 17 older cruisers and render them effective as modern warships at a cost equalling the amount required for the construction of a battleship and cruiser. Mr Justice Williams made an order sanctioning a reduction to £180,000 of the capital of Robert Campbell and Sons, wool merchants, New Broad Street. Mr John Stratford Dudgale, Q..C, Recorder of Birmingham, has been appointed successor to Mr Justice Charles. OTTAWA, Apkil 9. The Lower House unanimously paused the second reading of the Alien Labor Bill. Mr Laurier said Canada was unwilliug to retaliate against the United States, but was compelled lo do so, and for this reason the United States form of legislation had been adopted. CAPETOWN, April 9. President Steyd, of the Orange Free State, has ignored the telegram published in the London papers to the effsco that the State was hostile to Great Britain.
