Last session the second reading of Major Steward's Bill was defeated by eight, i but the mnjority to-morrow night is ex- , peeteil to be reduced to threo or four. It is an open secret that two members who voted against the measure a year ago will either support it or refrain from vofiDg. , The employment of amanuenses for the transcription of notes, rendered necessary . by the tri-weekly issue of Hansard, has not : answered satisfactorily, so the Premier yesterday waited on the Speaker with information that he intended to strengthen the stuff by the appointment of three additional reporters. The three 1 whose names are mentioned are Messrs Kay (Manawatu Standard, and now ucting on Hansard staff), Gray (Mr Seddon's shorthand i writer), and Hyde, lately private secretary < to Mr Ward. ■ i Mr Pinkerton has been appointed Chair- ! man of the Labor Bills Committee, !
