THE GOAL STRIKE.
A FIGHT TO THE BITTER END. Sydney, June 19. It has traapired that instead of granting the miners a conference or any concessions the mine owners' meeting decided that the hewing rate should be reduced from 3s to 2s lOd all round, and the selling price of coal to 7s Gd per ton. It also resolved no longer to recognise the Miners Association, and men applying for work will have to do so individually. The reduction not only affects the hewing rate but yardage rateß and the refuse scale as well. Notices will b 6 posted in the various collieries to-morrow.
Referring to the situation a leading owner said that the maßters were tired of direction from outsiders and have decided to conduct their business in their own way on Btriotly commercial lines.
The decision of the owners has caused a great deal of surprise and bitterness amongst the miners, and there is now every prospect of a fight to the bitter end.
