Washington, June 18. The St. Louis convention platform supports the Nicaragua canal, Munroe doctrine, a vigorous foreign policy, adequate protection for wool and sugar, creation of a mercantile marine, the Harrison policy in Hawaii, recognition of belligerent rights of the Cubans, and liberal pensions. Mr McKinley controls 546 delegates against bis opponents 360. Mr Cleveland, in a letter to the press, says he does not believe the Chicago convention will demand free silver. He intimates that he intends to retire into private life after his term of office expires.
