Cycling Carnival.

Melbourne, Jan. 28. It was Lewis, not Porta, who entered a protest againat Marten in the Five Mile Championship race. Jan. 29. — At the cycling carnival to-day the Great Wheel Race, two miles, resulted : H. Hourigan (110 yds) 1, J. Carpenter (120 yds) 2, D. Grantor (190 yds) 3. It was a close finish, the race being won by half-a-wheel; lime, 4min 35 3-sth sec. Parsons started from scratch, but could not make up the handicap. Pither was scratched. Mr McLernon, who lately bought Jensen and Mb'ller's business in Napier, desires us to direct attention to his advertisement, in which he points out still greater reductions (5s in the pound). During his absence in Napier, his brother-in-law, Mr Somers, who has been his assistant for seventeen years, will conduct the sale, the terms of which will he strictly adhered to. To prevent annoyance to his old customers and others, who may leave work to be done, a thoroughly competent workman will be employed. — Ad.
