The Archbishop of Canterbury has invited the leading churchmen to confer as to the principles of State relief and voluntary aid to schools, with a view to arrive at a common understanding with other religious bodies. Cardinal Vaughan is moving in a similar direction. The revenue for the quarter ended 30th September is £23,858,151. Stamp and excise duties have immensely increased. The Standard considers that the end ot the year will probably Bee a huge surplus. PARIS, Oct. 1. M. Pasteur, wishing to be buried in the " Institute Pasteur," his widow declined the offer for his remains to be placed in. the Pantheon, although she accepts a Bervice in Notre Dame.
