Tbe abovo were the oalj races he started for. Owing to his thorough garaeness he was nick-named the " Bull-dog," Air fennelly (trainer to tbe late Hon. J. White) pronounced Nordenfeldt the greatest horse that he cv er put through a preparation. With something to make a desperate pace for him over a distance, Mr Fennelly considered that there was nothing to cope with Nordenfeldt. At the breaking-up of Sylvia Park Stud, Nordenfeldt realised the large sum of 5600 guineas. Pungawebkwseb, the dam ol Crackshot, was a very fast mare, winning, among other laces, the Maiden Plate (Canterbury) and Tradesmen's Handicap, the Dunedin Cup, of 400 soys (2 miles and a distance), and the St. Leger Stakes at Canterbury. Punguwerewere is very stoutly-bred, being got by Golden urape out of Atlanta. Golden Grapu, by Birntou, own brotuer to Voitigeur, whose descendants, Galopin and St. Simon, are t#o of tho moat ia:hlonable sues in Eugiaud, cummantiiug ho iesß a fee tnau 260 guineas. All Pungawerewere's progeny are real fast gallopers. She is the dam of Tetford (winner of the rree U&ndicap, 1 mile, the Plate Handicap, and the Fjying Handicap at tho Thames J.C. She is also the dam of St. James (winner of the Dunedin Cup), Krupp, Katlpo, Puwerewere, and others. Her ton, Brigadier, is going to make a name for himself at the stud, not alone for getting flat racers, but flrat-class cross-country iioises. He is the sire of Bombardier, the winner of neveral jumping events, including the Auckland Grand National Steeplechase, and ran second to Norton iv ' ihe uraud Nat.onai Stouuiecaase at the last Cnrißtchurch meeting, Biigauier is alao the sire of that • good little horse Brigand, winner of sever*! good races, ana numerous otuer fast hones. Last, but not lease, is Ckackshot himself —a really flrat-cluss racehorse while on the turf. The followiug are some of his performances :— Won the Spring Haudicap, Hawke's Bay, 1J miles, 2min 89sec, btating Strephon, Pearl Powder, Oynisca, Boulanger, and Katinka ; won by a length easy. Won Birthday Uandieip and J.C. Handicap at Heathcote. Won A.K.O. Handicap Crackshot wou d have been a Melbourne Cup winner, only he could not be thoroughly prepared, on account ot striking himself when in f*Bt work. He ran severa' close seconds to first-claaa horses, carrying heavy weights. Oracsshot never raced in hack company, but was nominated for tbe steeplechase meeting at Giaborne Paris, in the Winter Oats, and he received the steadier of 18st 7lb being asked to give King Cannibal and others 3st 4lb! Craukshot is a beautitul-looking horse, stands 10 hands 2 inches, with good bone aud plenty of Bubßtance, and having such a strain of running blood from both his sire and dam, xt must prove to tno most fastidious Dreeders that mating their mares With such eteoiaa of blue Wood, it must end in good results. Cr&ckshot is as well auapttd to get crosscountry horses as his half-brother Brigadier, and those breeders .wishing to breed a fast hunter from an oidinary mare, or a racehorse from a thoroughbred mare, could not do better than mate them with Crackshot. He possesses a grand constitution and beautiful temper, and being a young sire and sure foai getter, should prove a boon to the district.
