Mr Hogan has given nobice to move for an annual grant of £3,000 to reimburse the expenses of colonial judges. Obituary : Vice-Chancellor Bacon, June 3. — The Times considers it difficult to believe in the reality of the federation movement in Australia. Victoria is virtually the only colony dealing with the question in "a practical spirit. If the colonies were federated it would be easy to find a Governor to occupy the dignified position that would then be created, whereas the reduction in salaries at present enhance the difficulties, owing to the curtailment of the dignity of the office, and the necessity- for incurring heavy personal expenditure.
