The Wairoa Prospecting Party.

ENCOURAGING REPORT.

JFbom Our Own Correspondent.],

Waiuoa, to-day,

The prospecting party, Messrs Parsons, Powell, and Horsfall, who proceeded inland three weeks ago to search the back country for gold, returned on Saturday night. They had au exceptionally rough trip and carried on their explorations under extreme difficulties owing to rain, snow, and the swollen streams. They brought in a nice prospect of reef gold from a block of sandstone obtained in the bed of the creek. The prospect is about a grain to the .dish. They traced gold for about two miles between two points, sinking two or three feet, but were unable to bottom owing to heavy boulders and excessive water. They are of opinion that it will prove payable reefing country, but will await a fine return before going in again. They express themselves well satisfied with the prospect, and will at once apply for a prospecting license to protect themselves. They are reticent as to the exact locality, but state it is on Crown lands adjacent to the Uriweya, country.
