Friendly Societies' Picnic.
*~. Boxing Day was most enjoyably spent under I the trees in Mr Gregg's paddock, Chitders road, by the members of the various friendly Focieties and their friends. Admission being free to children, there was of course, a large preponderance of the juvenile element. Lawn tenuis, cricket, various other games, and dancing on the green was carried on till a j late hour in the evening. There was a plentiful supply of refreshments. The committee did all in their power to make the gathering a success, and that it was a success all who were present testify. In the morning the members of the various societies met at their lodge rooms, and then joined iv procession, headed by the City Baud, which paraded the street and afterwards made for the picnic site. The regalia of the officers and members, and the banners ! of the different lodges, notably that of the Foresters, made the procession a very ; attractive one. On arrival at the grouud a lengthy programme was gone through. Below are the results of the various events : — Boys under 7 : McCormick 1, Hunt 2. Girls under 9 : Gregg 1. Boys under 12 : Taylor 1, Gallagher 2 Boys under 16: W. Bougen 1, A. Jones 2. Girls under 16 : Sobers 1. Married Women's Race : Sirs Mason 1. 1.0.0. F. Juveniles : C. Parker 1, Ormond 2, Robb 3, Gray 4. Sack Race : Buscke 1, Jones 2. Running High Jump (bojs under 16) : E. File, 4ft, Bin, 1, Price 2. Ruuning High Jump : Driberg, sft 9in, 1, Taylor 2. Past and Present Officers : R. Little, A.0.F., 1. Open Handicap : Driberg 1, McDonald 2. Friendly Societies' Handicap : C. Whitfield 1. . Three-Legged Race : Loomb and Silva 1. Hop, Step, and Jump : Driberg 1, Shaw 2. Tug of War : Rechabites beat A.O F., Oddfellows beat Druids, Rechabites beat Oddfellows. Forced Handicap : M. Nasmith 1, Hillson 2. The race was run over again, and again Nasmith won.
