Sib, — Being under the impression that no Cap matches were to be played on Saturday last owing to the inclemency of the weather, I was very much surprised, as most of the public were, to hear of the matches being played. I think it shows a very, short-sighted polioy on the part of the Union to have forced tlie matches to be played, knowing as they did thaC the Wanderers, Turanganui, and Waimata Clubs' were not in favor of playing, the last-named Club having only six of their team 'down. From a pecuniary point of view, I think the Union must be a considerable loser. I did not think that the finances of the Union were in such a flourishing condition as to have permitted the matches to be played, and besides, seeing that No. 2 ground was half under water and next Saturday being an off-day, I think it would have been only fair to the players, as well as to the general public, to have postponed the matches. — I am, &0., Fair Plat.
