Social at Patutahi.

Thk social ab Patutahi Hall last evening was well attended, and all seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. There was a rare musical treat provided for the occasion. The musical part of the entertainment was commenced with a song by Mr A. W. Gould, " The Frii*r of Orders Gray," in which his full baritone voice and distinct enunciation shone to perfection. Mrs D. M. Orr then followed with the ever-popular ** Gome Back to Erin," in which her rich mezzosoprano voice had full scope. Next followed a duet by Mr Gould and the Rev. Father Kehoe, called "Love and War," and was rendered in capital style. This is a musical item rarely successfully attempted except by professionals, as the high tenor notes and quick movement involved in the piece taxes the vocal abilities of the singer to the utmost. Miss McCormack then followed with a capital rendering of the old and ever-pleasing ballad. " The Blue Bells of Scotland." Mr Gould sang the duet "Flow on Thou Shining River," with Mrs Orr, the same lady also singing with Father Kehoe that popular duet by Sam Lover, " What Will You do, Love." Both items were given in a very pleasing style. Mr Gould and Father Kehoe also sang the duets " All's Well" and " Larboard Watch," their voices blending beautifully, and in a style which left nothing to be desired. Father Kehoe also sang "The Auld House" and "Will He no Come Back Again," with his usual verve and brilliancy ; but the piece of the evening was "Kato O'Shane," sung by Mrs Orr with -a beauty and pathos rarely heard. Nearly all the vocal items were encored, but were not responded to, as the votaries of Terpsioore were impatient for the light fantastic. Messrs Bolton and Higgins rendered the dance music in their usual excellent style. The ladies of Patutahi are to congratulated for the ample and splendid spread provided for the occasion, to which all did justice.
