Makaraka Artesian Well.

oAt a meeting held at Makaraka ou Thursday evening for the purpose of arranging to collect the necessary funds over and above the £80 granted by the County Council for the restoration of the well, a letter waa read from Capt. Winter to the effect that if the cost of the bare labor of sinking did not exceed £50, the well would be put down for £120. This leaves £40 to be collected, of which Messra Currie and Hogan had previously agreed to give £10. It waa decided that Mr P. Richardson should solicit subscriptions from the public, and a committee consisting of Messrs G. P. Tiflwn, W. C. Walsh, and R. Theltvall was appointed to whom he should be responsible and report progress to when necessary. The names of subscribers are to be published, and in the likely event of less mopey being required than now aslicd for, the balance is to be rc^ turned pro rata. A subscription lift is lying at the Roseland hotel, which it is hoped that teemßter3 and others using the road and by whom the absence of the well during the late hot weather has been so much felt will avail themselves of. Other lists will bo left ftt convenient centres _j,t pnce. Several pprsonß .subscribed la§t flight.
