DROWNING FATALITIES.

SAD ACCIDENT IN THE BULLER. Murchison, to-da}\ — A sad accident occurred here yesterday. Mrs O'Rourke and Miss Mclnroe were crossing the Buller river at the ford when the horse jibbed and broke loose from the trap. A man who saw the accident went to the assistanoe of tho ladies with horses and a dray. When they were in the act of throwing a child they bad with them into tho dray the buggy turned over, and both women being precipitated into the river, were carried away by the current and drowned. Mrs O'Rourke was a widow with a large family. Miss Mclnroe was the daughter of the late Mrs Mitchell, who lost het life in a recent coach accident. TWO TARANAKI SETTLERS LOST. New Plymouth, to-day. — George Brown and Wm. Turnbull, settlers at Urenui, were drowned whilst fording the Moliakutaro river near Whitecliffs. A Maori, who was sitting on the hills, says ho saw two men come down to ford the river, but no sooner had they fairly got into the water than they seemed to be in trouble, and one horse and rhlei- disappeared and the other horse scrambled up the bank riderless. Deceased, who were married to two sisters, were 25 and 30 years of age respectively. It is supposed that quicksand was the cause of the accident. '
