Sir H. Norman's Resignation-
«■ — Brisbane, Sept. 21.— Sir H. Norman has i withdrawn his acceptance of the ViceRoyalty of India purely from consideration of health, and from a feeling that great in--1 convenience would be caused to the Imperial 1 Government if after entering upon the duties 1 of the office, he should be compelled within i a short period to relinquish them through breaking down under the strain. The Go- , vernor communicated his desire to bo relieved i of the honor conferred on him on Monday. \ London, Sept. 21. — The Standard is as--5 tounded at Sir Norman's decision, and ' thinks the reasons given inadequate. It considers his action inexplicable, and that the ' real cause is nofc revealed. His refusal will put Government in a serious dilemma. The ' Times, on the other hand, considers the ! prudence and moral courage dictating the ■ refusal, ought to command general respect. | The Daily News says great regret generally is felt that Sir H. Norman has declined the ' position.
