LAND SETTLEMENT
(Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington", to-day. — Government are negotiating for the acquisition of the Scarboro run in Marlborough for settlement purposes, and the Minister of Land expects that these negotiations will prove successful. Government also intend to do everything, the Hon. McKenzie says, to promote settlement in the Awatere Valley. The Lands for Settlement Act Amendment. Bill has been amended so that no land shall be taken compulsorily from anyone nob owning more than 1000 acres of first-class land, 2000 acres of second-class laud, or 5000 actes of pastoral land.
