CRICKET.

London, July 31. At the cricket match, combined Universities r. Australians, the attendance is only moderate. The weather was fine, and the wicket was in good condition. The Australians have lost four wicket* for 346. Bannernaan is not out with 102, George Giffen made 43, Trott 61, and Graham is still in with 61 t« his credit. Giffen played a good innings without giving a chance. Trott punished all the bowling, and made many boundary hits. Bannerman was at the wickets for four hours before a century was registered against his name. He gave eight chancea altogether.. August I.— The Duke of Connaught entertained both cricket teams (Sorrey and Australians) at lunch, and ordered a special escort for them during their inspection of the dockyard. The Australians have lost six wickets for 484 runs. Bannerman increased his score to 133, and Brace is still in with 77 to his credit. Graham made 83. All the i men batted well, and completely mastered the mediocre bowling opposed to them. Graham hit eleven fours in his score. The following paragraph is taken from •Pavilion Gossip' in Cricket :—" Aliok Batinerman was recently the recipient of a postcard which shows the possession of a fine sense of humor by an anonymous correspondent. To the card was attached the following advertisement abstracted from a Welsh paper : — " Sfconewallera Wanted ; good wages. Apply Foreman, Coodine Works, near Cardiff." Ab it arrived while the match with Surrey at the Oval was in progress perhaps there was something specially fitting in the time of its delivery. A stonewaller, ib is certain, was much wanted on the Australian side during that contest. At all events Bannerman would be strongly of opinion, I am sure."
