A Lady Killed in the Hunting Field.

A very distressing accident in the hunking field occurred on the 24th ult. during the run of the Melbourne hounds, and saused the death of Mrs W. E. Highett. The hounds were laid upon a trail, which extended from Kew through Heidelberg to Caulfield, a course which covered some of the best hunting country around Melbourne. Aboub 60 persons took part in the chase, which, with a cold air, bright sky, and pleasant surroundings, commenced under singularly enjoyable conditions. In the front of the following was a party consisting of Mrs Highett, Mr Seton Williams, Mr Willan, and Mr R. Watson. After the party had been out an honr and a quarter they cleared in close order a country road and a small neck of land dividing it from the Burwood Road. Jumping out of the Burwood Road into the paddock beyond wag a matter of some difficulty, because the side path from which the horses had to rise »fc the fence was rather high, with a step in the centre of it. It made a Tery bad take- off, and Mrs Highett's horse, rising badly, came with its breast against the fence, a stiff two railer, and, turning a complete somersault, the animal landed right on the top of the unfortunate lady, whose sknll was smashed, causing instant death. Mrs Highett, who resided at Barnato, on the Orrong Road, Armadale, was 30 years of age, and leaves behind three children, a son and two daughters, the eldest ef whom is ©nly five years of age. The deceased was the widow of the late Mr W. E. Highett, solicitor, of Collins-street), who died about 18 months ago.
