FATALITIES.

Auckland, to-day. A widow woman named Mary Larkins, a settler at Kawa Ka-wa, was riding along a bridle track when hor horse bolted. Her foot caught in the stirrup iron, and she was dragged for over a mile before the horso stopped. A nicin coining by fouud her with her foot still in the stirrup, quite dead.

M.vrtox, to-day. A young man named Fred Galpin met with his doath in a painful manner in the Upper Rangitikei yesterday. With a brother he was driving a, traction engine up a hill, when some part of the driving gear gave way, and the engine commenced to run back. Both jumped out, but Fred was knocked down and run over, both logs being broken. He wa3 also badly crushed in the region of the abdomeu, aud death occurred about four hours afterwards. Deceased was a son of one of tho oldost settlers in the district.
