TiiEllaihor Board met last, evening, there being present — Messrs Townley (chairman), DcLautour, Sievwri&ht, Gray, Matthewson, Bright, and Joyce. Mr Sicvwrighl was appointed a member of the Finance Committee. SAND rt'MP. A telegram was read which had boen sent to the New Plymouth Harbor Board asking (M.'la for the sand pump, which originally cost £800 UKACONS. Mr A. Dewing, manager of the freezing works, wrote asking for the bush beacons in the Taruheru river, which had been washed away, to be replacod. Captain Kennedy was willing to do the work if the Board would supply the material. — The timber to be supplied. HE FUND CLAIM. The Chairman and Mr DeLautour reported on Mr A. Reeves' claim for refund of rates, because Natives had dispossessed hhnof his land, that at the time the money was paid MiReeves was liable, and therefore they could not recommend a refund. —The report was adopted, and a resolution was carried that the Board regrets that it was unable to relieve him from the payment made. RETURXIXG OFFICER. Letters were received from Messrs G. Deßlaquicrc, W. J. Quigley, andC. C. Lucas applying for the position of Returning OfHci.t. Mr Joyce proposed that Mr Quigley be appointed ; but it was carried that the appointment stand over. HARKOR REPORT. The Harbormaster reported:— l have the honor to report to you that it is now the time of the year for the general overhaul of boats, buoys, beacon, and also the rigging of the flagstaff, and I ask permission to have this work done. The river and channel along the breakwater are about the same as when I reported to you last month. The want of more wharf accommodation is being felt every day, and though both the Kaiti and town wharves have been fully occupied they do not give sufficient accommodation I for the present trade of the port, Soundings j this day at high water : 300 feet out from breakwater, 21 feet ; 200 feet out, 21 feet ; end of breakwater, 19 feet ; half-way up, 7 feet 6 inches ; Snark's landing, S feet 6 inches ; largo crane, 9 feet ; buoys in river, 0 feet 3 inches. Steamers: Arrivals 21, departures 21. Sailing vessels : Arriralsll, departures 9. The various matters suggested in the | report were ordered to be given effect to. ADDITIONAL WHARF ACCOMMODATION. It was unanimously carried that a new wharf be immediately erected a short distance above the present wharf, tenders to be in at next meeting, Captain Winter to pro- ; Dare specifications. INSURANCE. ' Mr Sicvwrighfc moved that the Board ' insure to their insurablo value the buildings < and plant therein.
