Fire at Tolago.
Tolag© Bay, to-day.— The Tolago Bay Hotel was totally destroyed by fire this morning at five o'clock. Very little was saved, the flames having too great a hold on the building when the alarm was raised to permit of removing anything but a very miscellaneous collection of odds and ends. To attempt to subdue the flames was out of the question without any proper water supply. The fire was discovered in the ceiling of the dining room and the'origin is quite a mystery. Mr Kirk, the proprietor, is a heavy loser.
The insurances, so far as we hare been able to ascertain, are as follows : — Norwich Union, £3CO on building ; Phre.iix, £400 on building and £200 on furniture ; Liverpool, London, and Globe, £200 on building ; Alliance, £200 on furniture and effects ; total, £1300. Mr Kirk had just completed arrangements for the disposal of the property.
