At Hawke's Bay Steeplechase Meeting, r.<n s-. oond, lOst s!b, in Welter Handicap, 11 miles, to Couranto, list 71b, beating Norton, list 61b, Lenorc, Link, Waterbury, and nine others, in the good time of 2min 19soc. It will be seen from the above that Hukatere has, at welter weights, beaten Couranto, Somnambu'ist, Norton, f.iuk, Waterbury, and other fl st-class performers at long distances. Combining as ho does the Musket and Ingomar strains of blood, Hukatere must throw Drstcliss steeplechasors and hmdle race hcrce.-i, and being a nitural jumper himself, and descended from the celebrated Irish steeplechase siro Uncas, should provo himself one of the best sires in New Zealand for getting hunters and wcight-cirrying hacks. BILLINGSGATE is a dark bay horse, with black points, standing about 1C hands 1 inch, with plenty of bone and substance. He was bred by the late W.
