Melbourne, to-day. The following scratchings havo been posted :— Cannon, Lemnos, and Argosfor the Melbourne Cup, and Argos for the Cnulßelcl Cup. HAWKE'S BAY SPRING MEETING. Napier, today.- During the last few days the weather has not been favorable to fast work at Hastings, in view of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's spring meeting. The Guineas is looked upon as a contest between St. Hippo and Stopnialc, the local horse, North Atlantic, having been under a cloud. Very few animals located here have had good preparation. The Auckland-owned St. Hippo and The Dancer should both win their races. Albert, Swivel, and Dreamland will be a thorn in the side of tho latter in the Flying Handicap. Rosefeldt and Pearl Powder will trouble Wright's elect in the Spring Handicap on the second day. In the First Hurdlea Gondolier is recorded to have a moral if he can jump at all. There is scarcely any double event betting so far. On the Flying and Spring the following have been backed at tO to 3 : — The Dancer and The Dancer, The Dancer
