BILLINGSGATE is a dark buy lmrsc, with black points, standing about 16 hands 1 inch, with plenty of bone and substance. He was bred by the late W. Walters, Ksq., of Pap-ikura ; while on the turf, he proved himstlf the f.stest miler of hs day. His breeding is undeniably good ; on his dam's side he hus the celfbratm.l I'raducer blood, which is, at the present time, telling so well on the turf ; on his sire's side ho has Dainty Ariel, by Ri dlesworth, while Fanny Fisher is by the celebra ed Fisherman. From the combination of these strains he should get some first-oKss stock, either for racing or steeplechasing. Some f f the best across country horses in England are got by speedy horses on the flat out of well-bred marcs. Billingsgate started in 60 races, winning 32, second 11, and third 10 times. Owing to the competition of Musket horses in Auckland, Billingsgate never had any thoioughbred marcs, the bust mare being Lalla Rookh (who was not thoroughbred), from whom he sired Forget-me-Not nnd Orakiti. Billingsgate is also the sire of Batger, Pica, Jessic-t, Manirarei, and Justice (who are all winners). He has also sired some of the fastest trotters in Auckland from light draught mares.
