Paper Hunt at Rangatira and Lome.

By invitation of Messrs Orr and YVetherod a large number of horsemen assembled at Rangatira at 12 o'clock on Saturday. After, doing justice to the lunch provided by Mr Orr, and being joined by Mr Wethered's party from Lome, a starb was made for the low ground at the back of tho hill on which the Rangatira homestead stands. Here a start was made over two post and rail fences, then up a steep hill, with a nice gradual fall on the other side, a post and rails close to the house, and over a double at the woolshed ; then an open drain, two or three more post and rail jumps, and a check was made at the junction crossing. The distance run was about two and u-half miles, and the going being splendid the pace was pretty merry from tho st:irb. This was necessary, as there were a large contingent of Natives out with baulkers and fallers, and tho better-mounted contingent didn't wish to be mixed up with them at the jumps. After a few minutes' check, crossed the river on to Lome, and followed the same line traversed last time, with the exception of a sod wall with a ditch full of water on each side. This stuck up more horses than any other jump, and a few riders wero obliged to gat off and lead their horses, and get somebody to whack them over. A good pace being kept up by the leaders, the field was strung out for a long distance, the lookers-on having ,1 capital view of the jumps being taken in Indian file. Mrs Orr and Miss Norah Reynolds wero the only ladies following. There were a few spiils among the men, but no damage was done. Three cheers were given for Messrs Wethered and Orr at the finish, and all hands adjourned to Mr Wethered's for refreshments. There would have been a much larger number out only the notice was rather short, and the distance from town interfered a little.
