A Heroic Miner.
An accident, remarkable for the display of heroism on the part of a miner, occurred at the Virginia mine, Eaglehawk, recently. Two men, named Sampson Bray and William Rogers, had fired four holes in the bottom of the shaft, and were going up to the next plat in a bucket so as to be out of danger. By some means Bray lost his hold and fell down the shaft. Regardless of danger Rogers gave the signal to lower, and though the fuse was " spitting" he went back to the bottom, and with great presence of mind pullod; out three of the burning fuses, but could not find the fourth. As no time was to be lost he pulled his mate into the corner of the qhaft, and huddled down alongside him. Just as he did this the fourth charge exploded, throwing up a mass of debris. The only injury done to the miners was by the fall of stones on them. Bray sustained a compound fracture of the right arm and numerous cuts, while Rogers escaped with comparatively slight injuries. Had it nob been for Roger's display of heroism. Bray would inevitably have been blown to pieces.
