Patutahi School Picnic.

The annual picnic in connection with the al)ove school took place yesterday, and was, like all previous ones, a most pronounced success. The children assembled at the school at 9.30 a.m., and were marched down to the ground hi charge of the teachers, and from that time till davk, games and sports were freely indulged in and enjoyed by all. The Committee did their work efficientlyand well, and had been on the ground at an early hour that morning erecting tents and tables for the convenience of the parents and friends, who, as the day advanced assembled in crowds, and at the close of the day fully 200 people must have been on the ground. Great thanks are due to those gentlemen who so kindly assisted the Committee in their earnest endeavors to make everybody comfortable, notably Messrs Price, Hali, and Bilhani. Patutahi has a name for 'good things,' and never did the commissariat department show to better advantage than yesterday. All was excellent and there was plenty for everybody and to spare. The ladies, as usual did their share of the work in preparing and dispensing the various luxuries both at dinner and tea, and they took as much pleasure in their arduous duties as the children did in receiving at their hands the various eatables and drinkables provided. Mesdames Sadler, Woodward, Bailey, and Stevens, and Misses Stevens, Sadler (2), Craill, Russell, and Spriggs deserve special mention. Before dispersing, Mr Lougher, Chairman of the School Committee, called for three cheers for the teachers of the school, and in so doing paid the school a very high compliment for its state of efficiency. Three cheers were also given for all those who luid assisted in making the picnic the success it undoubtedly was, and also for Mrs fl. L. Sunderland, who takes great interest in the affairs of the schorl, and who had again so kindly placed her paddock at the disposal of the Committee. '" Mr Woodward; the master of the school, then titan ked aU those who had attended the picnic, aim those who had subscribed to the? sports' fund, concluding by calling upon the children to give three cheers for the Committee, which was done heartily. The prize list has b?en crowded put of t,his issjue.
