Shearing '\y machinery hns been adopted with grent smi-i-v^s this season for the first time on two 7 >n.'e stations in Victoria — Yarra Yarra :» n<l Wulbuuilrie, the former shearing 90,000 and the latter 60,000. It was found that when carefully handled the machines took off 7 ov. more wool from each sheep th-'ui the hand shears. One man at Yavrn Yarra tallied 204 ewes and lambs in 7i hours, and tho same man shore 160 wethers in one day. A destructive hailstorm passed over a small part of the Oamaru district on Thursday. Windows were smashed, andj the oat crops suffered, severely.
