ORMOND JOCKEY CLUB. The above clob were favored with c much larger attendance at their meeting yesterday than on any previous occasion. The course, which is en Mr Newmans property, is well Bituated, and will, as the club grows, become a favorite spot for upcountry meetings. The convenience oi visitors had been well attended to by the officers of the club, a convenient stand having been erected, and a saddling paddock fenced off. The other arrangements •were in every way excellent. The luncheon provided by Mr Erskine was highlj commented on for its excellence, and the way in which visitors were waited on. The course was on the plough, but in good going, and the fields were fair on the whole, while moat of the finishes were keen and exciting. No accidents occurred to mat the pleasure of the day, and the committee and stewards are deserving of praise for the capital way in which all the arrangements were carried out. A sum of L 1065 was passed through the totalisator. Chris. Roady was brought up before the stewards for pulling. Pekapu in the Ormond Cup Handicap, and was disqualified for three months. A meed of praise is due to MrJ. H. Aislabie for the courteous manner in which he carried out the Secretary's duties. The following are the results : — Handicap Hurdlk Race, of 20 soys ; two miles. Mr R. Smith's Herbert, 9 7 (Owner)... 1 Mr W. Hamon's Rimu, 11*0 (McLean) 2 Mr A. Parson's Macoaroni, 10 # 2 (Casey) 3 Bowsprit (9 5) and Bay Jim (9*o) were scratched. Rimu was the quickest away and led over the first jump, then Herbert went up and the two raced on even terms until the last jump, when Her bert came away and won by a length. Maccaroni endeavored in the second round to get alongside the leaders, but could not get up, and at the finish was four lengths away from Rimu. Diy. L 4 2s. Handicap Hack Hukdle Race, of 10 soys ; one mile. Mr Hepburn's Bowsprit, 9 12 1 Mr Parson's Bay Jim, 90 2 Mr Tait's Aokarca, 9 0 3 Five others started. Bowsprit won hard keld. Div. L 2 16s. Maiden Scurry, of 7 soys ; threequarters of a mile. — There were nine entries for this event. Willow cut out the running at a merry pace until the turn for home was reached, when Maroon came to the front, but was displaced by Defence within the last 200 yards. Dolly finished third. Div. L 2 Is. Flying Handicap, of 15 soys : threequarters of a mile. Mr Jacob Rapiata's Assassin, 7 3 (Ready) 1 Mr A. Parson's Puti, 80 (Slater) ... 2 Mr F. Arthur's Hunca Munca, 7 9 (Power) 3 Deceiver (8 # 5) and Deceiver (B '7) also •tarted. luanga(7'o) and Hexham (7 0) were scratched. Deceirer and Assassin took command, the others being in close attendance. Puti put in a bid for first place up the straight, and with Hunca Munca beat Deceiver, but could not reach Assassin, who came fast, Ready landing him an easy winnor by three lengths. Truthful was never in the race, being beaten by a distance. Div. L 2 14s. Welter Handicap, of 10 soys ; one and a quarter miles. All horses to be ridden by members of the Club. Mr Hepburn's Bowsprit, 11*7 (Williams) 1 Mr L. Rees' Little .loe, 107 (R. Smith) 2 Mr A. Parson's Crescent, 11 2 (Owner) 3 Inanga (11 2, Arthur), and Baby (10 "7, Brown) came to the post. Deceiver (12 4) and Maccaroni (11 "2) had the pencil put through their names. Crescent was the first to move when the flag fell, followed by Bowsprit, Inanga, and Little Joe. Baby was caught napping and moved sluggishly, passing the judge's stand after ihe others had pulled up. Little Joe changed places with Inanga at the back of the course, and with Bowsprit challenged and displaced Crescent of the lead at the turn home, but was beaten by the former down the straight, Bowsprit again winning hard held. Div. LI 19s. Ormond Cup Handicap, of 25 soys ; ono and a half miles. Mr R. Smith's Herbert, 7 4 (Power) 1 Mr F. Arthur's Hunca Munca, 7 2 (Malone) 2 Mr A. Parsons' Pekapu, 7VB (Ready) 3 — Cairngorm (7*10) and Deceiver (88) were starters. Truthful (8 5), Bowsprit (7 7), and Assassin (67) did not put in an appearance. On the flag falling Pekapu Md the field, being full of running and nard held as they swept past the stand, Herbert heading the others, who were close up. When round the bend Pekapu , dropped back last, and Hunca Munca ; moved up into second place, Cairngorm and Deceiver several lengths away. Then from the windmill up the back of the course Pekapu came fast passing the last two horses and running close up to Huuca Munca, who was running at Herbert's girth. Cairngorm also moved up, and the four travelled round the bend in a cluster. Herbert drew ahead and entered the straight with a good lead from Hunca Munca, winning by two lengths. Pekapu and Cairngorm finished within a neck of each other about the same distance from the second horse. Div., L 7 9s. Handicap Hack Flat Race, of 10 soys ; one mile. — This event was won easily, by Crescent (80), Orwell (812) being seoond, and Defence (74) third. The other starters were Maud (67) and Vixen (6 7, plus 312 over weight). Div., L 2 19s. Forced Handicap, of 10 soys ; one mile and a distance. — Cairngorm and Truthful were the only starters, the former led all the way, never being asked to extend himself. Div., LI 9s.
