Public Works Statement.
A GRANT FOR THE M /TU ROAD. [FROM OUlt OWN COERESrONDENT.] Wellington, to-day. The Public Works Statement will provide for setting aside a largo sum of money for tho acquirement of lauds. It will alao provide driblets of money for the partial carrying out of works in various parts of the colony 1 . Gisborno will receive a sum for a road to the Motu special settlement, and perhaps one or two other small grants. Government have consented to split up the Hangaroa district into well defined JOOO and 20CJ aero blocks for settlemo.it under perpetual leases. It is absolutely certain a vote will nob be granted to the Gisborno Harbor Board, though, the Government would be inclined to grant an endowment block if the Board only urges them to do so.
