Baby Farming in Southland.
Invsboargiu, yesterday. A baby farm has been discovered aft Winton. A. child in the keeping of a woman there died, and as it had not been attended by a doctor the police made enquiries, and on visiting the house found thirteen children in it. An inquest on the dead infant will be held to-day. To-day, Afc the inquest at Winton yesterday on the death of the infant found in the house of Mrs Deane, evidence was taken to the effect that the infant was six weeks old, and was brought from Oaversham on the 9th. It then had a cold, which gofe gradually worse. The child was given medicine, but died. In the house Mrs Deane had eleven children from six weeks to two and a half years old, and two eleven and fifteen years. With self and husband they occupied a house 12 x 14 with a lean-to. Medical evidence showed that death was naturally caused by inflammation of the valve of the heart and congestion of the lungs. A verdict accordingly was given, with a rider that the premises wore entirely inadequate tat the purpose for which they were used, the Coroner being asked to lay the suggestion before the proper authority. :
