A Melbourne Tragedy.
■■ - ♦ — Melbourne, Jan. 27. Two letter-carriers off duty, standing at the corner of Elizabeth-street and Post Office-place about midnight, heard a number of larrikins a few yards off quarrelling. The letter-carriers laughed, when a larrikin accused them of " barking " at him, and a fight ensued between him and a carrier, in which the latter had the best of it. The cry was raised, "The police are coming," and one of the letter-carriers, numod Cameron, ran towards Swanston-street along Post Office - place. Netiring Svvansfcon - street Cameron fell, when the larrikins who followed overtook and commenced kicking him on the ground. This was observed by a bystander, who heard Cameron call out, " Ted, stand by me, they have killed me," and running to where Cameron was lying, found him quite still, apparently dead. The police, who at once arrived, removed Cameron to the hospital. On arrival he was dead. Tho cry of police had evidently been usod by tlio larrikins to divide the two mon, find the ruse proved successful, as Edward Grady, Cameron's companion, then got separated from him. Cameron was twenty-five years of age. A man named Butler locked up on a charge of drunkenness, is supposed to be implicated in the crime. Tho post mortem on Cameron shows that ho met his death by suffocation, a large piece of saveloy boing found Hxed in his throat. Tt is supposed that the exertion of the fight iiffectod him in such a way as to cause him to vomit, and not having properly masticated some saveloy eaten during the evening, it got lixed in tho throat. Three men, Henry Poole, Richard J Butler, and Charles Richmond, appeared before the City Court to-day, cbai'ged with the murder of Cameron, and wore remanded tor a week. «_»__________«____ Be not deceived by specious representsions, See fchafc you get VVoJfe's Schnapps,
