A wholesale prosecution of shearers for breaches of agreement is taking place, and in a test case at Detiilquin 0110 of the shearei's was mulcted in a lino of LlO in addition to costs. A largo number of cases hang on this decision. "(Received October 2, 10.10 a.m.) Sevt. 2 The strike at Broken Hill in estimated to have cost the men fifty thousand. After taking a legal opinion the shearers have decided to contest the notion of the squatters in refusing to pay wages to the men who struck. Many of the latter have gone to gaol in preference to paying the tines. Melbourne, Oct. 2. Theaction of Chief Justice Higinbotham in subscribing to the strike fund is causing a good deal of comment. Tho Argus Heveruly handles him, while tho Age upholds him. Brisbane, Oct. 1. The gas workers have notified that they will no longer contribute to the strike levy and intimate their intention of severing their connection with tho labor federation. Twelve oflicers and sixteen stewards who left the Australian United S.S. Company, have returned to their vessels unconditionally.
