Napier Caledonian Sports

Napikr, to-day. A full holiday was observed j'esterday, when the annual Caledonian gathering was held. The weather was glorious, and 3000 porsjns were present. The Ladies' Bracelet was won by J. Goodall ; and the Open Caledonian Handicap by Wilson, a stranger hero, who had it all bis own way. The Mile Race was won by Peebles (Waipawa). The chief prizes for dancing fell to T. McKay and W. P. Stuart, both from the South Island, and McKay also carried off honors for bagpipe playing. The feature of the clay was the wrestling of two Maoris. The first easily disposed of the well-known wrestler O'Brien, and the second Maori conquered O'Brien's conqueroi\ Witty, a Gisborne lad, was completely beaten, being out of condition.
