Safety of Australian Mails.

Wellington, to-day. The Government have had their telegram to Mr Creighton, of San Francisco, about the fate of the mails, returned to them with a memo that the name is unknown. Mr Creighton has been Government agent there for years, and hundreds of telegrams have been sent him from time to time. The message has how been sent to the Agont-General, but from recent telegrams it is considered clear the mails are all safe. If anything had really happened to them Mr Creighton would have sent word hiniKelf. The Postal Department have received an official cablo message from the AgentGeneral in London .stating that according to the latest advices to hand from New York the Australian mails were not destroyed in the train which was wrecked at Xs T ebr«skft on Saturday last.
